water song [Kahrhionhwa'kó:wa] visually reproduces the sound wave of a water song for Karhionhwa’kó:wa [Saint Lawrence River], composed by Ionhiaroròks McComber, through images of the river printed on discs and strung on threads. The images of the river are taken from the Kahnawà:ke shoreline looking toward Tiohtià:ke (Montreal). In this installation, the panels of hanging threads reproduce the curves of the South shore of Tiohtià:ke.

This series of suspended installations references wampum belts, through the lengths of thread that connect floor to ceiling / earth to sky and the connection between artist, singer, river and community.

chant pour l’eau [Kahrhionhwa’kó:wa] est une reproduction visuelle de l’onde sonore d’un chant pour la Karhionhwa’kó:wa [Fleuve Saint Laurent], composé par Ionhiaroròks McComber. Les images numériques sur les formes d’acétate montrent les eaux du fleuve prise du côté de Kahnawà:ke en regardant vers Tiohatià:ke (Montréal). Dans cette œuvre, les panneaux qui retiennent les fils suspendus reproduisent l’ondulation de la rive sud de Tiohtià:ke.

Cette œuvre fait partie d’une série d’installations qui activent l’ontologie des ceintures wampum, par leurs longueur de fils qui vont du plancher au plafond pour suggérer la connexion entre sol et ciel; et par l’engagement entre artiste, chanteur.e, cours d’eau et communauté.
